Chapters are what we make them – what we project into the universe. Starting a new chapter is usually a world of limitless possibilities, expectations, and many opportunities to fail. I typically begin new chapters with hope, goals, and a blind expectation that this chapter will be different, better. Never knowing how to manage expectations for ourselves is one of the ways we end up holding ourselves back.
People rally around new chapters. While I don’t always understand the excitement for the chapters over the years, I have learned the world of limitless possibilities creates excitement in societal norms. Society gives the world expectations that make chapters so incredibly hard to achieve. Which in turn allows for us to fail every turn of life. What if we could ignore the buzz of society?
In the past, starting a new chapter, my goals have always been much like a new years resolution. Determined at the start that this one would be different, much like those resolutions forgotten about before any actual good comes from it. With the end of a chapter or the start of a new year, make it a good one no matter what it is. In this chapter, my hope will be to change the outcome of this chapter.
Allowing our past to define how we treat every day, every chapter, is one of the biggest disservices we can do to ourselves. We can be our biggest enemy while pointing fingers at our biggest fans, supporting, loving, and encouraging our growth. Learning to be our own biggest fan and supporting our own passions into a world with “social norms .”Having the resolve of who we are is one of the most empowering projections we can put into the universe.
My expectations of this new chapter are that of apprehensive wonder. The hope of not holding myself back from what I have worked so diligently for. So often, I’m the obstacle stopping me from having a chapter of life that isn’t yearning to come to a finish. This chapter will be a chapter of rewriting how my chapters layout and manage my expectations for longevity. Sharing who I am with the world on a level that even myself will stand in wonder looking back at the strides I took. This chapter isn’t my last; it is just where it starts getting interesting.
